If you find yourself running into the same problems and challenges just with different people, places or things, then it is super important to note that you have yet to effectively solve or conquer anything. The best way to explain it is to consider each challenge or problem as its own entity. It will live until it ceases to exist.

First off, what is a solution? A solution is a means of solving a problem or conquering a challenge. Keep in mind, solutions are not temporary fixes and they do not result in unconquered challenges. If your solution does not solve the problem or allow you to conquer the challenge, it's not a solution at all.
What is the cause of the challenge or problem? Why is it happening? Is it something you're doing? Is it something you're not doing? Is it something someone else is doing? Is it something someone else is not doing?
When analyzing a challenge or problem, it's too easy just to think about what somebody else is or isn't doing. Consequently, the key to Step 2 is being able to identify what YOU are or aren't doing that's contributing to the challenge or problem.
Seems easy enough, but identifying the challenge or problem is actually the hardest of all 7 steps. It's the hardest step because to actually complete it, we have to point the finger at the last place any finger ever wants to point... ourselves. A difficult pill to swallow, but until we can swallow it, we'll never be able to see that life is way more than just something waiting to happen to us, it's our battlefield, and on this battlefield, the only challenges or problems that actually continue to exist are the ones we allow.
